This was a simple installation once you remove the old hydraulic hood strut. As other users have mentioned, this is slightly different from the original struts that came with car. I believe the piston rod end of the original hood struts faced upward toward the hood of the car. When installing these the same way, I noticed that it didn’t fit correctly. I flipped it over with the piston rod end heading toward the engine block direction, and it fit perfectly fine. A youtube video even shows a person installing a new hood strut on the Ford Explorer that same direction. Works great, don’t know why I didn’t do it sooner.

Worked perfectly. Installed while getting a 99 Ford Explorer Limited ready to sell. Took a screwdriver and about 10 minutes to replace both and just wish I’d done it years ago!

The product works great, the fastening system was a little different than the factory unit, problem was there was no instruction, I had to use the old fasteners. I bought at Amazon and paid for express shipping but was delayed due to winter weather, if I knew that when I ordered I would have gone to my local auto parts store. |
